Turkish Airlines Flight Gets Evacuated in Kathmandu After Smoke Alert

(MENAFN) Passengers on a Turkish Airlines flight traveling from Istanbul to Kathmandu were safely evacuated on Monday after smoke was detected coming from the aircraft’s landing gear following landing, according to airline officials.

The aircraft, an Airbus A330 operating as flight TK726, had completed a normal landing at Tribhuvan International Airport before the issue was observed while taxiing on the runway.

A spokesperson for Turkish Airlines, Yahya Ustun, said the smoke was noticed in the landing gear area during taxi operations. He stated that the evacuation was carried out as a precaution after instructions were issued by airport tower authorities.

According to his statement shared on social media platform X, “After our Airbus A330 aircraft operating the Istanbul-Kathmandu TK726 flight landed normally on the runway, smoke was observed in the landing gear while taxiing,”

He further explained that emergency procedures were immediately activated and passengers were directed to evacuate using emergency slides. The spokesperson added that the process was completed without any injuries.

Officials confirmed that all passengers and crew were safely removed from the aircraft, while airport authorities began assessing the cause of the smoke and inspecting the aircraft to determine what triggered the incident during ground operations.
