Anwar Urges Dialogue to Ease Thai, Cambodia Tensions
The calls took place ahead of the upcoming Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) foreign ministers’ meeting scheduled for Monday.
Anwar wrote on US social media platform X that during the discussions, “I emphasized the importance for Cambodia and Thailand to adhere to the spirit of dialogue, wisdom, and mutual respect in order to end the tensions and maintain the peace and stability in the region.”
In October, Thailand and Cambodia signed a peace accord in Kuala Lumpur, witnessed by Trump and Anwar Ibrahim. However, the agreement was later suspended after Thai soldiers were severely injured in a landmine blast in a border province.
The two countries share a long-standing border dispute that has repeatedly escalated into violent confrontations.
