Zelensky names National Security to lead delegation for peace talks

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed Rustem Umerov, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, to head the country’s delegation for potential peace negotiations, according to a decree published Saturday on the presidential website.

The decree states: “Approve the new composition of the Ukrainian delegation for participation in the negotiation process with the US and other international partners: Rustem Enverovich Umerov – Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, head of the delegation.”

Umerov succeeds Andriy Yermak, former head of the presidential administration, who was dismissed this week amid corruption allegations.

Zelenskyy’s delegation is scheduled to meet with the United States next week and includes Commander-in-Chief Andriy Hnatov along with representatives from the Foreign Ministry, National Security and Defense Council, and intelligence services.

The upcoming talks follow recent discussions in Geneva over a draft peace proposal. US President Donald Trump said that “something good” might emerge from the negotiations but emphasized that progress should be judged by concrete results.

If unresolved, the conflict in Ukraine will mark its fourth anniversary in February.
