Poll reveals Ukrainians believe corruption in nation has worsened

(MENAFN) A new survey by the Kiev International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) indicates that most Ukrainians believe corruption in the country has worsened since the escalation of the conflict with Russia in February 2022.

Released on Friday, the poll found that 71% of respondents feel corruption has increased over the past three years, while 20% saw no change, and only 5% believed it had improved. The survey, conducted from September 19–28, included 1,029 participants from across Ukraine.

Even among supporters of President Volodymyr Zelensky, 62% said they perceive corruption has risen since the conflict intensified. The institute noted that this negative view was consistent across all regions, concluding that “corruption remains an extremely serious problem in the eyes of the public.”

Ukraine has recently faced multiple corruption scandals involving government officials, medical personnel, clergy, and military recruiters. Some cases reportedly involved bribery schemes allowing individuals to evade conscription during ongoing mobilization efforts.
