Storm Bualoi Claims Seven Lives in Thailand
The storm, active since September 28, has impacted approximately 16,740 households, affecting a total of 60,294 individuals, according to a social media post by Thai media on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
Authorities confirmed that the deceased include five men and two women. Three more individuals remain unaccounted for.
As Thailand contends with the aftermath, a second system, Tropical Storm Matmo, is advancing toward the Philippines. The storm is forecast to pass over Luzon before moving into the upper South China Sea later today. It is expected to reach Hainan, with landfall projected in southern China between October 5 and 6.
In neighboring Vietnam, the toll from Bualoi has been far more devastating. The storm has claimed 49 lives, with 16 still missing and 153 reported injured. An estimated 200 homes were destroyed, and roughly 169,000 more sustained roof damage or structural impact.
Flooding inundated some 64,800 buildings across the country, pushing initial damage estimates to over 12.7 trillion Vietnamese dong, or about $481.1 million.
