Accident Claims Two Lives on Vilyuchinsky Volcano in Russia
The incident happened close to the town of Yelizovo, triggering a rescue mission that involved 45 personnel, including medical teams and mountain rescue experts.
Both a helicopter crew and a 23-member ground team reached the climbers at an elevation of approximately 1,500 meters (4,920 feet).
One man was declared dead at the site.
The woman who fell alongside him sustained critical injuries and later succumbed despite extensive medical intervention.
A third individual involved in the climb was located without injuries and is currently being assisted down the mountain by rescuers.
The Investigative Committee for Kamchatka Krai has initiated a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Vilyuchinsky Volcano, situated about 70 kilometers (43 miles) south of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, is a favored destination for climbers but is known for its hazardous nature due to its steep inclines and unstable ground.
