Putin says Russia, Ukraine are ready to continue peace discussions
Putin reiterated that Russia remains open to dialogue, including the possibility of meeting face-to-face with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. However, he expressed doubts regarding the legal authority of Ukraine’s leadership to sign any binding peace agreement.
"I am ready to meet with anyone, including Zelensky," Putin stated. "That is not the issue. If Ukraine entrusts him to negotiate, let it be Zelensky. The real question is: who will sign any resulting documents? We are not dealing with propaganda here; when it comes to serious matters, what matters is not political messaging but legal legitimacy."
He warned that if the negotiation process does not result in an agreement, Russia is prepared to continue pursuing its goals through force.
"Undoubtedly, if we fail to reach an agreement through peaceful negotiations, we will achieve our goals by military means," he said.
Putin also emphasized that the main objective of what Russia refers to as its "special military operation" remains the demilitarization of Ukraine, aiming to prevent it from sustaining armed forces capable of threatening Russian security.
