Russia Calls on Ukraine to Accept Post-War Realities
Speaking to a Russian broadcaster at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Peskov emphasized that “Ukraine will certainly have to understand that the situation has changed compared to what it was three years ago.”
He acknowledged that Ukraine has not fully grasped these changes, saying, “Apparently, not to the end (they don’t understand), but at least they probably carefully read the text of the memorandum that we handed over.”
The memorandum, which Moscow presented, details the “new realities” Ukraine is expected to acknowledge, according to Peskov.
Highlighting progress from previous talks, he pointed to humanitarian agreements that have laid the groundwork for further advancements. “The fact that many wounded young people were given the opportunity to return home is a very important result,” Peskov remarked, underscoring this as a key accomplishment in ongoing discussions.
Regarding a potential high-profile summit, Peskov said a trilateral meeting involving Russian President Vladimir Putin, US President Donald Trump, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy “should be the result of long-term work and already prepared points.”
On the regional front, Peskov mentioned Israel’s assurances about the security of Russian personnel at Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant amid rising tensions in the area.
The Kremlin has persistently called on Kyiv to restart peace talks, referencing the Istanbul meetings as a foundation. The initial two rounds, held in Istanbul on May 16 and June 2, 2025, concluded without any major breakthroughs.
