Thousands Displaced as Floods Batter Southern China
In addition to Guangdong, relentless downpours swept across other regions—including Anhui, Hubei, Guizhou, and Chongqing—prompting authorities to launch a flood emergency response.
To mitigate the crisis, officials deployed more than 3,000 rescue and emergency personnel. These teams were also tasked with restoring electricity in affected areas across Guangdong, where infrastructure was strained by the extreme weather.
Weather forecasts indicate that further rainfall is expected to continue across central and eastern China. In response, the National Meteorological Center maintained a yellow alert for heavy storms, which will remain active through Thursday evening.
China’s weather warning system categorizes threats into four tiers: red at the top, followed by orange, yellow, and blue.
