UN Reports Over 680,000 Palestinians Displaced Over Past Three Months
During a press briefing, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric referenced the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), revealing that on Tuesday, "Israeli authorities issued another displacement order in Khan Younis and Deir al Balah."
Dujarric detailed, "This has affected hundreds of families living in five neighborhoods. Five primary health care centers and three medical points are located within 1,000 meters (3.281 feet) of the displacement area."
According to OCHA, the newly imposed evacuation zone now spans an extra three square kilometers. This expands the total area under displacement mandates or within Israeli-controlled militarized zones to over 82% of the Gaza Strip.
Highlighting the impact on essential medical services, Dujarric reiterated that five primary health care centers alongside three medical points lie within 1,000 meters of these newly designated displacement zones.
The scale of displacement remains staggering, with nearly 250,000 individuals forced to flee in just the past month, he emphasized.
Despite global demands for a ceasefire, the Israeli military has intensified its harsh campaign in Gaza since October 2023, resulting in the deaths of over 55,600 Palestinians, a majority being women and children.
In November, the International Criminal Court took the unprecedented step of issuing arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, charging them with war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Moreover, Israel is currently facing a genocide lawsuit at the International Court of Justice concerning its military operations in the Gaza Strip.
